Gili is a place like no other

Three little islands off the coast of Lombok in Indonesia, called the Gili Islands, are home to everything paradise. Especially, Gili Trawangan.

The beautiful scenery of Gili Trawangan.

With its white sandy beaches, clear blue water, extremely friendly locals and prohibition of motorized vehicles, Gili T is a place like no other. To get around the island, you have to walk, bike or ride in a horse carriage. To give you an idea of how small Gili T is, you can walk around the whole island in about two hours.

There’s plenty to do in this little paradise between snorkeling, diving, stand-up paddle boarding and indulging in a spa day. If relaxing is what you do best, then there are plenty of bean bag chairs on the beach and waiters who are ready for you to rack up a tab at their bar, too.

Relaxing on the beach is a must on Gili T.

And, Gili T is also for the partier. If you’re looking for relaxation during the day and want to get wild at night, then you’ve found your place. You can bar hop all night and for a really adventurous and psychedelic experience, you can even buy a mushroom shake that are sold by heaps of vendors and see the island from a completely different perspective.

If you want to get away from the crowd, then the island also offers a luxurious side with resorts that are from another own world. We walked around and saw the most unreal villas with beautiful landscapes, gardens, statutes and pools.

There’s something for everyone on Gili T and it would be a huge mistake to pass up all that this island has to offer.

You can catch a boat from Bali that goes straight to the Gili Islands. It’s about a two hour ride and the view is quite stunning. For $50, we bought transportation from our hostel in Seminyak to the boat dock, round trip boat ticket to Gili T and a bus ride to our next destination of Ubud. If you want to follow our same route, New Seminyak hostel in Seminyak in the southern end of Bali can hook you up with the same price. But, don’t go to Seminyak solely for this. If you’re in the area, then it works, but you can get transportation from anywhere in Bali to the boat dock. Just ask reception at wherever you’re staying for help!

  1. Beautiful pictures. We are planning a trip in a couple of months…do you think …48 hours is a good time to cover 3 islands? Also do you have any specific local dish that is worth the try…..
